MCR-SCR Seminars

MCR-SCR seminars are held on Fridays, four times per term, at 1pm. These are an opportunity to hear what research other members of the MCR are doing. The 30 minute talks cover subjects ranging from medieval history to experimental physics. They are all aimed at a non-specialist audience, so everyone can enjoy them! A free lunch is also provided. Talks are held in one of the college seminar rooms. See the term card below for more details.

If you are interested in presenting at one of these talks, please get in touch with the MCR Academic Officer, Tom Fay (thomas.fay@ccc.ox.ac.uk).

Two dimensonal perovskites – the mystery of the many peaks

Hybrid lead halide perovskites have created a stir in the world of solar energy with their rapid rise in efficiency and easily tunable properties. By using large organic ions instead of the conventional small ones, these materials can be made into layered quantum well materials, known as ‘two dimensional perovskites’. These materials have greater environmental stability than their 3d counterparts and are more promising for use in LEDs. However, their absorption and emission spectral are full of mysterious peaks, which I will attempt to explain in this talk.
